Tutoring for ages 11–16, and adults, working towards English and Maths GCSEs at both Foundation and Higher tiers.
GCSE English and Maths provide essential literacy and numeracy skills for everyday life, further education and most jobs.
I’ve found that this age group can experience huge pressure to fit in, avoid asking questions or worry about sounding ‘stupid’. Sessions are a safe, supportive place to build confidence and fill gaps in understanding.
If GCSE results don’t go your way, it can really affect confidence for years. No fear - I’m here to help!
Tutoring for the 11+ (GL Assessment), used for entry to Warwickshire grammar schools.
Subjects:
Obtaining a grammar school place is very competitive, particularly for Leicestershire families. With that in mind, my approach is not only to prepare thoroughly for the exam itself, but also to build confidence, broaden skills and so that children know the experience was really valuable – whatever the outcome.
Tutoring for children aged 9–11, preparing for the Key Stage 2 SATs.
Topics:
This can also be a great time to develop exam-day routines, techniques and positive attitudes towards success and failure. A positive early experience of exams can benefit children for years to come.
Tutors can be a valuable support with home schooling – helping fill gaps in subject knowledge, support the National Curriculum, and give parents a much-needed break.
If your child has learning differences or special educational needs, I’d be very happy to discuss how I might best support them to achieve their full potential.
I’m passionate about helping adults with literacy and numeracy – whether that’s re-taking a GCSE, working towards a qualification, building confidence, or simply improving knowledge.
A lack of confidence in English and Maths is an incredibly common source of shame in adults (which it shouldn’t be!) and can hold people back from important opportunities.
Helping adults rebuild confidence is one of the most rewarding parts of tutoring for me. Never hesitate to invest in yourself!
